July 4, the holiday that changed US history: How Independence Day was born

Every year, on July 4, the United States celebrates Independence Day, one of the most important dates in the country's history. It was on July 4, 1776, that the Declaration of Independence was adopted, the document that marked the birth of a new state and officially declared the secession of the 13 American colonies from Great Britain.

However, history hides an interesting detail. The decision to secede from the British crown had been approved two days earlier, on July 2, 1776, by the Continental Congress. For this reason, some historians argue that this date should be considered the true day of independence, while July 4 remained the date of the adoption and publication of the Declaration.

The American War of Independence began in 1775 and ended eight years later, in 1783, when the Treaty of Paris officially recognized the independence of the United States and ended the conflict with Great Britain.

Today, July 4th is a federal holiday, officially recognized since 1941. Parades, concerts, sporting events, family picnics, and memorial ceremonies are organized across the country, as millions of Americans gather to celebrate this symbolic day.

One of the most characteristic elements of the celebrations are fireworks. The tradition began in 1777, when the first displays were organized to mark the first anniversary of independence. Since then, they have become an inseparable part of the 4th of July, with the largest spectacles taking place in Washington, New York and other major American cities.

Even today, the use of fireworks remains one of the strongest symbols of Independence Day, although the rules for their sale and use vary from state to state. In many areas of the US, citizens are allowed to use certain types of fireworks even in private settings, turning the holiday into a spectacle of lights that brings together millions of people every July 4th.
