Lawyer: Police implemented illegal orders, protesters should be released

Lawyer Alban Duraj has opposed the way the police have acted towards the protesters escorted after today's clashes in front of Parliament, stating from the premises of Police Station No. 4 that the arrests in flagrante delicto were carried out in violation of the law.

According to him, the legal conditions for this security measure are not met, as arrest in flagrante delicto only applies to criminal offenses that provide for a minimum sentence of five years in prison.

Duraj also urged the Minister of Interior and Prime Minister Edi Rama to react, warning that their failure to release could lead to an escalation of the situation and a "legal revolt".

"The criteria for the measure of arrest have been violated, when someone is arrested in flagrante delicto, they must have committed a crime punishable by a minimum of 5 years. Those police officers who have implemented illegal orders will be held accountable, we call on the police officers not to commit illegal actions, everything is filmed."

We have no information about the three escorts, they are waiting for orders and orders are political. We should not have had an arrest in flagrante delicto.

The protesters responded because they were being violated, the violence was disproportionate because they used rubber batons and were numerous in number.

"What we are asking from Hitaj and the prosecutor is to immediately order the release and the investigation to be carried out in a free state, there should be no proceedings. The Minister of Interior and Rama should act immediately. We are requesting Rama that the protesters go to their families, otherwise it will cause a revolt, which is legal," the lawyer said.
