Mexico beats Ecuador and secures ticket to the 1/8th of the World Cup

Mexico secured qualification for the round of 16 of the World Cup after convincingly defeating Ecuador in a match that started an hour late due to adverse weather conditions at the Azteca Stadium.

The team led by Javier Aguirre solved everything in the first half thanks to goals from Julian Quiñones and Raul Jimenez, while in the second half they managed the score without encountering any difficulties.

This success gives Mexico the opportunity to continue their journey home, as in the next round they will face the winner of the England-Congo match in Mexico City.

The match was delayed by 60 minutes due to a severe storm that hit the Mexican capital, but once the game started, the home team took control. They created several clear scoring chances within the first 10 minutes, while Ecuador responded only with a shot that hit the crossbar by John Yeboah.

Mexico's pressure paid off when Julian Quiñones broke through on the left wing and beat goalkeeper Hernan Galindez with a precise shot. A few minutes later, the striker turned into an assist for Raul Jimenez, who took advantage of a mistake by the opposing defense and scored the second goal with a beautiful shot into the triangle.

After the break, Ecuador tried to react, but failed to create any serious chances, with the best attempt being a shot by Gonzalo Plata that went wide.

The evening ended in the worst way for the Ecuadorians, as in the final minutes Piero Hincapié was sent off, leaving the team with ten men at the end of the match.
