German MEP speaks from protest: Government should listen to citizens

The civic protest held this Monday in front of the Prime Minister's Office in Tirana has also received support from representatives of the European Parliament, including German MEP Tineke Strik, who joined the rally and addressed the protesters.

Strik expressed solidarity with the citizens in protest, praising their resilience and emphasizing that their message will also be conveyed to European institutions.

She called on the protesters to continue their mobilization, emphasizing that the values of democracy are shared and that their voice will not remain unheard in Brussels.

The MEP also emphasized the respect for fundamental freedoms and asked the Albanian government to listen to citizens and not the interests of privileged groups.

"Solidarity with the Albanian people who are protesting. Continue with the mobilization in protest, your voice will be expressed in Brussels as well. We will fight for the same values, just as the Albanians are fighting, for democracy. This shows that the Albanian people do not accept the denial of the right to speak and that the government should listen to the citizens and not the rich people". The moratorium suggests that construction in protected areas in Albania be banned. Albania is showing with this protest that it belongs to the EU", said the German MEP.
