Police officer dies in Vërmica, suspected of being hit by a driver from

An accident resulting in the death of one person was recorded overnight at the Vërmica Border Crossing, where Kosovo Police officer Rexhep Gashi, a former KLA veteran, lost his life.

According to a statement from the Kosovo Police, the incident occurred at around 02:40, when Gashi was allegedly hit by a vehicle while he was performing his duty at the border crossing.

"All relevant police units have arrived at the scene, while the victim's death was confirmed by the attending physician. By decision of the state prosecutor, the body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy, while the suspect was taken into custody,"  says the Kosovo Police.

 Authorities have launched investigations to uncover the full circumstances of the fatal accident. 

According to the police, the victim was hit by a vehicle driven by a suspect, a citizen of Albania.
