“The Sun”: Albanians at the top of the statistics, over 1,500 cases

An investigation published in the British media outlet "The Sun" has revealed that thousands of immigrants previously deported from the United Kingdom have returned to the country in the years following their deportation.

According to data analyzed for the past five years, there have been over 4,600 cases of re-entry into British territory by people who had previously been forcibly removed from the country. It also turns out that at least 723 individuals have been deported more than once.

At the top of the list of citizens identified as returnees are Albanians, with around 1,525 cases, making up more than a third of the total. They are followed by citizens from Romania, Afghanistan, Lithuania and Iraq.

The data also includes statistics on voluntary returns and forced deportations in 2025, with over 26,000 voluntary returns and around 8,600 forced returns recorded. According to the figures, the average cost of a forced deportation in Britain is around £48,800, which has raised questions about the efficiency of the system.

The report comes at a time when immigration remains a major political issue in the UK. Since Prime Minister Keir Starmer came to office in July 2024, more than 76,000 illegal immigrants have crossed the English Channel, despite a deal with France known as "one in, one out", which aims to curb the phenomenon.
