Tragic balance sheet in Venezuela/ The number of victims from the earthquake

The death toll from the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen further. Authorities announced that 589 people have died so far, while 2,980 others have been injured.

According to CNN, the news was announced by acting president Delcy Rodríguez, who stressed that search and rescue teams are working around the clock to find people who may still be trapped under the rubble, within what is considered the "golden window" of 72 hours after the earthquake.

"We have not slept a single minute in the efforts to save lives. We thank the international aid and emergency teams that have joined the operations. We have managed to save dozens of people," Rodríguez told state television VTV.

According to authorities, operations are mainly focused on the state of La Guaira, the area that has suffered the most damage from the seismic tremors.

The Venezuelan government has also set up an emergency center at the Foreign Ministry in Caracas, where food supplies, drinking water and medicine are being stockpiled for affected residents.

Authorities warn that the death toll could rise further as rescue teams continue to comb through collapsed buildings and search for survivors.
