Two powerful earthquakes hit Venezuela, at least 164 dead and hundreds injured

At least 164 people have died and 971 others have been injured as a result of two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela overnight, the country's interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, announced.

The death toll has risen sharply in a matter of hours. Authorities initially reported 32 dead and around 700 injured, but searches in the affected areas have revealed a much larger scale of the disaster.

Rescue teams continue operations to find people trapped under the rubble, while international aid has begun to arrive in the country. According to authorities, emergency teams from several countries have been engaged to support search and rescue operations.

The United States has also offered assistance, with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stating that the US is immediately deploying the necessary teams to respond to the emergency.

The two earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, are considered among the most powerful to hit Venezuela in more than a century, causing extensive material damage and panic in several regions of the country.
