The Durrës Court has ordered the security measure "Arrest in prison" for 27-year-old Meklajd Meçaj, accused of stabbing his neighbor, Rrapush Memolla, 60, an event that occurred a few days ago in Rrogozhina.

During the court session, Meçaj appeared calm and with his hand bandaged, as he was also injured during the collision with the victim.

Before the jury, the 27-year-old denied that he had intended to kill the 60-year-old, claiming that he had acted in self-defense.

"In that incident, it was me and the victim. He hit me first and I defended myself. I didn't mean to kill him. I'm sorry too, I'm not a murderer," he told the court.

Asked if he had had any personal conflicts with Rrapush Memolla, Meçaj stated that there had been no previous clashes between them, but claimed that the victim had had a disagreement with a cousin of his.

"No, I personally had conflicts with that person... but my cousin. Not with me, nothing with me, I never spoke to him," he testified.

According to the accused's claims, the conflict began after the victim stopped his vehicle near his apartment and provoked him with the car's high beams. However, preliminary investigations point to a momentary conflict for weak motives that ended tragically.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening, at around 9:50 PM, in the Mollaj neighborhood of Rrogozhina. According to the investigation, after an argument between them, Meklajd Meçaj stabbed 60-year-old Rrapush Memolla. The latter was rushed to the hospital, but died on the way as a result of his injuries.

The perpetrator also suffered minor injuries to his hand, wounds that are suspected to have been inflicted during the fight with the victim. He was arrested by police a few minutes after the incident.

It is learned that Meçaj has been previously convicted in Germany. At the end of the session, the Durrës Court accepted the request of the Prosecution and imposed the security measure "Arrest in prison" on him, leaving him in a cell until the conclusion of the investigations.
