Berlin speaks about the protests in Albania, the spokesperson for German

The spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry, Martin Giese, has commented for the first time on the protests that have been taking place in Tirana for days, following a question raised during a public conference.

Giese was asked whether German authorities are closely following developments in Albania, whether they are in contact with the organizers of the protests, and what Berlin's stance is towards the demands of citizens taking to the streets.

In his response, the representative of German diplomacy emphasized that the right to protest is a fundamental democratic principle, but underlined that political developments related to the protests constitute an internal matter of Albania.

"Citizens in Albania enjoy the right to protest. However, this remains a matter of internal Albanian politics and we have no further comments to add, " stated Martin Giese.
