A surprising book about democracy written by Ndriçim Kulla

 "The Tyranny of Smiles – A Political and Psychological Portrait of Edi Rama" was not written out of a desire to attack an individual. It was born out of a need to understand a phenomenon. Because in history, more important than individuals are the phenomena they represent.

Political power is not just administration. It is also culture, psychology, a way of communication, a relationship with truth, a relationship with freedom and a relationship with the citizen. Therefore, when a person stays in power for a long time, as is happening today with Edi Rama, he ceases to be simply a prime minister and becomes a system of influence that penetrates institutions, the media, public life and even the way people think about reality.

This book attempts to analyze precisely this process.

The title "The Tyranny of the Smile" may seem paradoxical. Tyranny is usually imagined with the harsh face of violence, fear, and repression. But modern times have invented more sophisticated forms of domination. They do not always come with open threats. They often come wrapped in spectacle, propaganda, humor, smiles, and promises.
