Incident at the protest/Journalist Osman Stafa is physically attacked, UGSH

Osman Stafa, a journalist for News24, reported on Sunday evening that he had been attacked by two people in the center of Tirana while reporting from a civic protest.

According to the journalist, the two people in question insulted and insulted him, as well as physically harmed him. Stafa stated that he has filed a complaint against the two aggressors, while claiming that the attack was due to his duty as a journalist.

"We were in the company of 2 foreign journalists, an Italian and a Polish woman, marching to catch up with the crowd. 2 people blocked our way, insulting and slightly physically harming me, describing me as a person who does not do my job well. I did not react to this provocation.

"There were 2 people who were concerned about the reporting and the support I gave to the protest. They knew I was a journalist and they came tearing at me with their nails. I was not accompanied but I came to the state police to report the 2 people. It was a real attack on my duty as a journalist," Osman Stafa said in a direct link to News24.

After the incident, the Albanian Journalists' Union also reacted, demanding an investigation by the authorities to uncover the truth about the incident.

"The Albanian Journalists' Union reacts to the provocation of two individuals on 21.06.2026, at around 18.00, against journalist Osman Stafa, who has reported the case to the state police. 

Aggressive individuals have attacked the journalist with insults, insults, and even violated his physical integrity, due to his duty.

"UGSH demands from these authorities a prompt investigation of the case and the clarification of the perpetrators' intent as well as legal punishment," the UGSH response states.
