From Rama's resignation to the caretaker government, the former KLA fighter reveals the protesters' official demands

From Rama's resignation to the caretaker government, the former KLA fighter

The massive protest against the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama has entered its 23rd consecutive day today, gathering thousands of citizens in front of the Prime Minister's Office again. During the rally, on behalf of the coordination group, former KLA fighter Dritan Goxhaj presented a political statement presenting the demands summarized after more than three weeks of protests and consultations with citizens.

According to him, the peaceful protest aims for a profound transformation of the political and legal system in the country, articulating five main pillars.

At the center of the platform is the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the government cabinet, as well as the establishment of a non-partisan transitional technical government with a 12-month mandate.

It is also proposed to draft a new Constitution through a popular referendum, which guarantees equality before the law and includes changes to the Electoral Code, the law on the financing of political parties, as well as limiting the prime minister's term to a maximum of two terms during a political career.

The list of demands also includes the cancellation of legal changes for protected areas, cultural heritage, the "Mountain Package" and the framework for strategic investments.

Finally, a new social contract between citizens and the state is also required, to be drafted through consultations with experts, intellectuals, and citizens proposed by the protesters themselves.

Requirements:

The non-negotiable resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the entire government cabinet.
The creation of a transitional technical government, which will be non-partisan and will have a clear 12-month mandate.
The drafting of a new Constitution that guarantees full equality of citizens before the law, which will be approved by popular referendum. This constitutional reform provides for:
Amendment of the Electoral Code;
Amendment of the law on the financing of political parties and organizations;
Limitation of the Prime Minister's mandate to no more than two mandates (full or partial) during the entire political life of an individual.
Failure to give up on the initial economic and environmental demands, which urgently require:
Cancellation of the changes to the law on "Protected Areas";
Cancellation of the changes to the law on "Cultural Heritage";
Repeal of the legal package known as the "Mountains Package";
Repeal of the status and legal framework for "Strategic Investments".
A new social contract between citizens and the state, which will be drafted through consultations with intellectuals, technical experts, and nonpartisan citizens proposed directly from the protest square.
