A serious incident has been recorded in the village of Karkavec, in the Qukës Administrative Unit of the Prrenjas municipality, where a 69-year-old man is suspected of attempting to take the life of his 67-year-old wife by dousing her with gasoline and then setting her on fire.

According to preliminary information, the suspected perpetrator was intoxicated at the time of the incident. Initially, he exercised physical and psychological violence against his wife, forcibly taking her mobile phone.

Then, at the height of the conflict, he allegedly doused her with gasoline and set her on fire, for motives suspected to be jealousy, while the full circumstances still remain under investigation.

The couple lived alone in the apartment, as their son is an immigrant in Greece. According to sources, the domestic violence had been recurring for a long time and the 67-year-old had been provided with a protection order for the past three months.

After the incident, the injured person was initially transported to the Elbasan Regional Hospital for first aid, and then sent to the burn unit in Tirana for specialized treatment.

Meanwhile, the Police services have arrested the 69-year-old man and legal proceedings are ongoing against him, while the investigative group is working to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident.
