Smart City/ Berisha's Alarm: Rama's cameras are monitoring Albanians 24 hours a day

Smart City/ Berisha's Alarm: Rama's cameras are monitoring Albanians

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of distorting the "Smart City" project, transforming it from an instrument for improving public services into a mechanism for controlling and supervising citizens.

In a statement to the media, Berisha said that the concept of a smart city aims to increase the quality of life through better management of traffic, transportation, energy, parking and other public services.

According to him, the Albanian government has followed a completely different direction, orienting the system towards continuous monitoring of the population.

Berisha claimed that the project has become a model of what he called a "Safe Nation," where the focus shifts from providing services to identifying, tracking, and monitoring citizens through advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, facial recognition, and integrating personal data into centralized systems.

According to the democratic leader, the essential difference lies in the fact that a "Smart City" operates on transparency, data protection and service to citizens, while the model being implemented in Albania, according to him, increases the risk of privacy violations, political abuse and profiling of individuals.

"Edi Rama, terrified of Albanian citizens, is trying to put them under complete control, monitoring their every move. This is a model that surpasses even the practices of many authoritarian regimes," Berisha declared.

He added that the use of these mechanisms is contrary to the Constitution of Albania and European standards for the protection of personal data, describing the situation as a serious violation of national and international law.

PART OF THE DECLARATION

So, 'Smart City' - 'Safe Nation' these Orwellians.
From improving the quality of life and public services to population control and prevention of alleged threats.
From traffic services, transport, energy, parking, pollution to security, order, identification, monitoring of behavior and activities.
From aggregated anonymous data for analysis and planning to personal identifiable data in real time in the police state.
From limitation only to services to extensive and continuous on many digital levels.
From open analytical platforms to AI cameras, facial recognition, data, integration into databases.
From data protection laws to broad laws that are often unclear and scary.
From often public data and algorithms to zero transparency.
From benefiting from better services for citizens to citizen surveillance and profiling in the police state.
From in the function of public services, urban planning, public policy to control, investigation, tracking, behavior prediction and citizen profiling.
From low risk to privacy if there is control and audit to high risk to privacy, political abuse and discrimination.
So, these are the essential differences between the safe nation and the smart city.
It is another step that Edi Rama, terrified of Albanian citizens, terrified tries to dominate them by putting them in complete control from morning to night in their every move.
It surpasses all authoritarian regimes.
All of this comes in flagrant violation of the Constitution of Albania, in flagrant violation of the EU directive.
So, it is a serious violation of national and international law and we condemn it with the greatest force.
