Norway secures World Cup round of 16

Norway have achieved historic success by claiming two consecutive wins at a major tournament for the first time, following a 3-2 triumph against Senegal.

With this result, the team led by Ståle Solbakken has officially secured a place in the 1/32 stage of the World Cup.

After a convincing 4-1 victory over Iraq in the first match, the Norwegians started this challenge at a high pace.

Despite an early injury to Julian Ryerson, his replacement Marcus Holmgren Pedersen returned to the spotlight.

Just before half-time, a blunder by Kalidou Koulibaly allowed Pedersen to break the deadlock and score his first international goal. Erling Haaland almost doubled the lead before the break, but his shot was blocked by the post.

The second half started with the same dynamic. Just three minutes after returning to the pitch, Haaland did not let up after a precise assist from captain Martin Ødegaard.

Senegal responded quickly by narrowing the gap through Ismaïla Sarr, but Haaland responded again five minutes later, tapping in Patrick Berg's cross to make it 3-1.

In the extra minutes of the match, Sarr scored again for Senegal, but his goal came too late to change the fate of the match.

Norway will play their final group match against France to determine the winner of Group I, while Senegal will seek qualification as third place in their final clash against Iraq.
