On the 23rd day of the protest, Lea Ypi shares Brecht's verses: When

From London, where she lives and carries out her academic activities, Ypi has shared on her personal Instagram account an excerpt from the poem "In Glory to the Revolutionary" by German playwright and poet Bertolt Brecht.

The post comes at a time when the citizen protest against the government has entered its 23rd day, with thousands of citizens demanding the removal of Prime Minister Edi Rama and profound political changes.

Although the author makes no direct reference to developments in Albania, the content of the selected verses has been interpreted by many followers as a reflection on the current political and social climate in the country.

In the piece published by Ypi, Brecht writes:

When exploitation increases, many people become discouraged, but his courage increases. Wherever there is oppression and talk of ‘luck,’ he will call things by their true names. Where he sits at the table, discontent also sits.”

The message has been widely shared on social media, with many commentators linking it to the wave of protests taking place in Albania. Others have seen the post as a universal call against injustice and oppression, in the spirit of Bertolt Brecht's work.

Lea Ypi, an internationally renowned author and professor of political theory in London, has previously spoken out on issues related to democracy, civil liberties, and the political transition in Albania. For this reason, her posts often receive special attention in the Albanian public debate.
