Trial against Meta and Kryemadhi, lawyer: File without evidence and financial

The trial of former President Ilir Meta and former MP Monika Kryemadhi is underway. According to reports, Kryemadhi's lawyer was initially not allowed to enter the courtroom after he refused to have his bag checked by security officers.

Meanwhile, Meta's lawyer Kujtim Cakrani has disputed the accusations, stating that they are not based on evidence and that the CEZ-DIA case does not stand up legally.

He has also alleged procedural violations and a lack of financial analysis in the file. We recall that Ilir Meta is accused of three criminal offenses, which were communicated to him on August 4, 2025, regarding the CEZ/DIA file and lobbying in the US. He is accused of concealing assets, money laundering and corruption.

Meta has been in custody since October 2024, while Kryemadhi is under a mandatory reporting requirement. The “Meta” file also includes investigations into Kryemadhi’s mother, Pirro Xhixho, and Ema Çoku.

The defendants are accused of several criminal offenses, including passive corruption, money laundering, and failure to declare assets.
