Why will Paraguay be one of the host cities for the 2030 World Cup?

The 2030 World Cup will go down in history as the most special edition ever organized.

Although most of the tournament will take place in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, FIFA has decided that the first matches will be played in South America, in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, as part of celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the World Cup.

Uruguay will host one of the opening matches as the country that hosted the first World Cup in 1930.

Argentina has been included due to its historic role as a finalist in that edition, while Paraguay has been chosen to honor its contribution to the history of South American football and as one of the founding countries of the football tradition in the region.

Paraguay was one of six South American teams to participate in the first World Cup, along with Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru. Although they failed to shine in that tournament, the country remains an important part of world football history.

As one of the host countries of the opening matches, Paraguay will also benefit from automatic qualification for the 2030 World Cup, just like Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Uruguay and Argentina.

With this unique format, FIFA aims to connect the past with the future, transforming the 2030 World Cup into a global celebration of football that will symbolically span three continents and six different countries.
