Citizen "nails" Shalsi: Nikaj-Mërturi has not seen any investment

Besnik Nikoll Palnikaj has published an open letter addressed to MP Eduard Shalsi, accusing him of a lack of commitment to the Nikaj-Mërtur area and asking him to intervene to stop the works on the Mërtur River.

The reaction comes just a few days after Palnikaj himself raised the alarm about the interventions with dams in the riverbed, claiming that three concrete dams are being built without transparency and without public consultation with the residents.

In his letter, Palnikaj addresses Shalsi with the question: "What have you done specifically for our area?" , while adding that the MP has not left any visible investment in Nikaj-Mërtur.

He also recalls the unresolved issues of the area, such as the bridge over the Small River, where according to him children risk their lives every day to go to school, while criticizing the fact that, according to him, the MP finds time to comment on social networks, but not to solve the problems of the community.

Palnikaj also addresses the debate about interventions in the Mërtur River, emphasizing that, according to him, the fadromas have entered the river without a public hearing with the residents.

" If you want to leave even a little bit of a blank page in relation to Nikaj-Mërtur, do a service that, in my opinion, you have never done for this region: demand that the fadromas be removed and that the Mërtur River be left untouched," he writes.

At the end of the letter, Palnikaj warns that, if the river is damaged, moral and political responsibility, according to him, will also fall on the name of MP Eduard Shalsi.

FULL POST

Dear Eduard Shalsi!

These days, during the calls for the protection of the Mërtur (Currajve) River, I had some retorts with you.

In a situation where we risk losing one of the greatest natural assets of our area, while you personally lose nothing, does it seem normal to you to tell me: "I don't want to lose respect for you."

Does the fact that you are a member of parliament, while I am an immigrant and a simple citizen, make you superior to me? I think differently.

Tell me, what have you done specifically for our area?
Or more precisely; have you done anything?

You said you didn't make any promises and that you were careful. But does that mean that the easiest way to avoid responsibility is to not promise, and therefore, to do nothing?

Where were you when I raised my voice about the Small River Bridge. When the children of the area risk their lives every day to go to school?

How is it possible that you find time today to comment on the page of an area that, in my opinion, you have made no investment in?

You said: “I didn't promise, but Mother did.” Does that make you any better? For me, no.

You said that you knew men from Nikaj-Mërturi. This does not surprise me. Nikaj-Mërturi has produced men for generations. But my question is: which men have you known? Those who are close to the government, or those whose loved ones were persecuted, imprisoned, and killed by yesterday's system? You understand very well what I mean.

Today you are seeing a river being treated like a "stream" and yet your concern is not to lose respect for me.

You are seeing that the fadromats have entered the river without a public hearing with the residents, and yet your concern still remains respectful to me.

Rest assured that I come from a family that has withstood a system much more brutal than today's. That is why I am not afraid of positions or titles.

If you want to leave even a little bit of a blank page in relation to Nikaj-Mërtur, do a service that, in my opinion, you have never done for this region: demand that the fadromas be removed and that the Mërtur River be left untouched.

Otherwise, if this river is damaged, it will remain a moral and political stain on your name as well.
