7 phobias of people you've probably never heard of

Many people have phobias of spiders, heights, or confined spaces. But in psychology, there are hundreds of types of specific phobias that go far beyond normal fears.

A phobia is not simply a "dislike," but an extreme, irrational, and often uncontrollable fear, which can cause anxiety, panic, and physical symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, dizziness, or difficulty breathing.

However, there are also much rarer and more unusual phobias that seem almost unbelievable in everyday life.

1. Koumpounophobia- fear of buttons

This phobia is associated with an intense feeling of anxiety or aversion to buttons, especially those on clothing. People who experience it may avoid clothing with buttons and feel very anxious when they see or touch them. In more severe cases, even the simple image of buttons can trigger an emotional reaction. Psychologists believe that it is often linked to early childhood experiences or stressful situations.

2. Arachibutyrophobia - fear of peanut butter on the palate

This is one of the strangest phobias. It's not the fear of peanut butter itself, but the feeling of it sticking to the roof of the mouth. This sensation can cause panic in some people, especially those who have had unpleasant experiences while eating or choking sensations.

3. Turophobia – fear of cheese

People with this phobia experience intense anxiety when they see, smell, or touch cheese. Reactions can range from disgust to outright physical anxiety. In some cases, the fear extends to other foods with similar appearances, especially soft or white products. It is often linked to a negative childhood experience.

4.Chromophobia – fear of colors

This phobia can be focused on a single color or strong colors in general. Some people feel emotionally overwhelmed or anxious when exposed to very bright colors. Researchers link this to the way the brain processes visual stimuli and to heightened sensitivity to the environment.

  1. Erythrophobia – fear of blushing

This is the fear of blushing in public. For some people, the very thought of blushing causes anxiety, which often makes blushing even more likely — a self-perpetuating cycle. This phobia can seriously affect social life and self-confidence.

6. Lachanophobia – fear of vegetables

Although many children dislike vegetables, in this case it is a real fear. People with this phobia may feel panic or intense disgust just by looking at or thinking about vegetables. It is often related to a fear of dirt, soil, or negative experiences with food.

7. Phobophobia – fear of fear itself

One of the most complex phobias. People who suffer from it are not afraid of a specific object, but of the feeling of being afraid. They may constantly worry that they will experience anxiety, creating a constant cycle of fear and emotional tension.
