"Will SPAK tie the knot?", Polish journalist hits out at Rama: Albania is being built on money laundering

"Will SPAK tie the knot?", Polish journalist hits out at Rama: Albania

Polish journalist and writer Margo Rejmer has published a long and critical status, where she directly attacks Prime Minister Edi Rama and the way Albania's economic and political model has been built.

At the center of her post are strong accusations of government ties to money laundering and organized crime, which she links to the development of the construction sector and large investments in the country.

"Tens of thousands of Albanians are protesting because the country's development model, based on luxury investments and money laundering, has never brought prosperity to any country. For ordinary people, this only brings degradation: food and rent prices are rising alarmingly, while the Albanian currency is inappropriately overvalued against the euro. Mafia-linked businessmen are building apartment complexes, money is "parked" and prices are artificially inflated. A broker I spoke to recently said: "Palermo of the '70s. Albania has turned into a giant construction site ," writes Rejmer.

It also questions the role of state institutions, suggesting that the approval of large investments goes through centralized political decision-making structures, placing responsibility at the highest levels of government.

An important part of the status is also dedicated to what she calls "The Albanian Files", which she describes as evidence not only of Albanian corruption, but also proof of how money laundering occurs on a gigantic scale.

"The Albanian Files" is not only a testament to Albanian corruption and the way money laundering occurs on a gigantic scale. It is also a testament to the moral corruption of the architectural stars – Winy Maas, Stefano Boeri, Bjarke Ingels and others – who in recent years have built the shiny facade of Albania's "economic success". Why has none of them asked themselves how a poor country has so much money for hundreds of investments and giant towers?

No Albanian architect is mentioned in "The Albanian Files". Edi Rama has worked only with well-known foreign names, presenting himself as a visionary leader who brings the big world to a backward Balkan country... all of them have been surpassed by Reinier de Graaf, the Dutch architect, who in "Albanian Files" states that he would like Rama to become king of Albania , the journalist writes.

The question that the Polish journalist poses at the end is whether SPAK itself will manage to pull the strings to reach Rama.

"And connecting the dots: Edi Rama is the chairman of the National Council for Territory and Waters, the commission that approves every investment in Albania, grants construction permits and evaluates every project. No investment happens without the approval of the prime minister. All of this is visible in the palm of your hand. Now all of Albania is asking: will SPAK connect these dots," the journalist continues.
