The Democratic Party, through the Anti-Corruption Spokesperson, Genta Vangjeli, has reacted to the report of the Supreme State Audit Office on the Food and Veterinary Institute (ISUV), describing it as evidence of abuses and serious violations in the public administration. According to Vangjeli, the findings of the Supreme State Audit Office prove a governance model where the misuse of public funds and violation of the law have become the norm, so she has called on Prime Minister Edi Rama to resign, along with the responsible leaders of the administration.

Statement by the Anti-Corruption Spokesperson in the Democratic Party, Genta Vangjeli:

Rama resigns...

It is time for the leaders of his administration to resign along with Edi Rama and take responsibility for the damages, abuses, and violations that have been committed for years at the expense of Albanian citizens.

Abuse of office, misuse of public funds, and violation of legal procedures are no longer political accusations of the opposition.

These are facts that are evidenced by the state control and audit institutions themselves.

An example is the report of the Supreme State Audit Office on the audit of the Food and Veterinary Safety Institute, where numerous violations were found that resulted in 16 organizational measures, 2 measures for compensation for damage, 4 measures for eliminating negative effects on the administration of public funds and 23 disciplinary measures against employees of the institution.

The scandal becomes even more serious when it is found that persons who had not yet started their employment participated in the tender procedures.

The head of the institution, with a specific Order, establishes the bid evaluation committee, through which a lady was appointed as the chair of the committee and began her employment at ISUV 21 days after the issuance of the order for the establishment of the KVO.

This is not an administrative error. This is a symbol of the degradation of the state, of institutional irresponsibility, and of the culture of impunity that has been installed during the years of Edi Rama's government.

When violations become the norm, when the law is applied according to interest, and when institutions are used to cover up political responsibilities, then the problem is no longer just one institution. The problem is the model of governance itself.

Therefore, Rama, resign, because public administration has been transformed into a politicized mechanism, where meritocracy is replaced by political persuasion and where accountability is lacking.

Rama, resign, because the standards of a functional democracy require political responsibility when scandals and failures are repeated year after year.

Rama, resign because Albanians have been demanding it for over 3 weeks and are challenging the narrative of a government that claims to enjoy the greatest support from citizens.

Rama, resign because Albania needs a new government that restores citizens' trust in the state and democracy.

Enough is enough!
