MEP speaks from the protest: It is right to stand up against corruption, you are

The most important moment in today's civic protest was the participation and speech of Italian MEP Ilaria Salis.

From the podium in front of the Prime Minister's Office, Sali congratulated the Albanian citizens who are protesting against the government, emphasizing that the people are affirming today the fundamental right to build the future in their country.

Salis said that citizens have the right to oppose a project based on corruption and privatization, which does not represent their interests.

"It is an honor and a great pleasure for me to be here with you today. Because here, on these streets, in the heart of the Flamingo Revolution, we can see the best of Europe. Not in Brussels, but right here in Tirana. Here the people affirm with their bodies, with their intelligence, with their needs and with their dreams, the fundamental right to decide on their own future.

Albania, its land, its beauty and its cultural heritage are not a commodity that can be sold to the highest bidder. Sazan Island and the Narta Lagoon must remain protected areas for all and for future generations. They must not be turned into a playground for the wealthy.

It is right to oppose a development model based on corruption, privatization and the profiteering of the privileged few. A model that does not bring well-being to the population, but only serves the interests of the powerful. And unfortunately, all this does not happen only in Albania. It also happens throughout Europe and the world.

You are making history! You are showing a path for all peoples. A path built on courage, dignity and collective action. An example that invites us to take our destiny back into our own hands and not allow the oligarchies to decide everything for us. Albania is not for sale! Europe is not for sale! The world is not for sale!", declared the MEP.
