The group stage of the 2026 World Cup has come to a close, bringing with it a series of historic moments, surprises and records that have captured the attention of fans around the world. The tournament has seen the confirmation of big names such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah, but also the explosion of young talents such as 17-year-old Gilberto Mora.

One of the most prominent events was Egypt's historic first victory in a World Cup, achieved after more than nine decades of waiting, in a match where the "Pharaohs" overcame New Zealand with decisive goals.

In terms of technical and statistical aspects, the tournament also saw individual records. Dutch coach Dick Advocaat made history as the oldest coach at the World Cup, managing Curaçao at the age of 78. Meanwhile, Ousmane Dembélé scored a hat-trick in just 32 minutes against Norway, one of the fastest in the competition's history.

Goalkeeper Eloy Room also made 16 saves in Curaçao's goalless draw with Ecuador, equaling a tournament record. Messi, on the other hand, continues to lead the race for the Golden Boot with six goals, while Ronaldo has scored in six different World Cups.

At the national level, Argentina, France and Mexico finished the group stage with full points, while Mexico and Spain stood out for their solid defenses, conceding no goals. Germany, meanwhile, recorded one of the deepest victories of the tournament with a 7-1 victory over Curaçao.
