EU grants $5.6 million in aid to Venezuela after devastating earthquakes

The European Union has mobilized 5 million euros, about 5.6 million dollars, in emergency aid for communities affected by powerful earthquakes in Venezuela.

The news was announced by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, who said she had a conversation with Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, following the disaster.

"I expressed the EU's full solidarity with the Venezuelan people and our deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones," Kallas wrote.

The funds will be used to support communities affected by the earthquakes, which have caused extensive damage to buildings, hospitals and infrastructure in several areas of Venezuela.

Meanwhile, rescue teams continue to search for survivors under the rubble, while thousands of people need water, shelter and medical assistance.
