The excitement of the 2026 World Cup continues this Monday with two matches expected to captivate fans around the world. Brazil and Germany, two of the most successful teams in the tournament's history, aim to take another step towards the trophy as they face Japan and Paraguay respectively in the round of 16.

The first match of the day will take place in Houston, where Brazil will challenge Japan at 7:00 p.m.

The team led by Carlo Ancelotti ended the group stage in excellent form, after a shaky start, recording two consecutive 3-0 victories over Haiti and Scotland, securing first place in Group C. "Selecao" comes with seven goals scored and none conceded in the last two matches, while seeking a return to the world title that has been missing since 2002.

On the other hand, Japan comes into the group stage undefeated and with a solid defense, but the statistics are not in their favor. The "Blue Samurai" have yet to win a single knockout match in World Cup history.

Germany then face Paraguay in Boston at 10:30 p.m. The four-time world champions return to the knockout stage for the first time since their triumph in 2014. Despite finishing top of Group E, a loss to Ecuador in their final match has raised questions about the form of Julian Nagelsmann's side.

Paraguay, on the other hand, returns to this stage of the World Cup after 16 years. The South American team secured qualification thanks to its defensive organization, but continues to have problems in attack, having not scored a single goal in the five knockout matches played in the history of the World Cup.

Match schedule:

Brazil – Japan, 19:00
Germany – Paraguay, 22:30
