The General Directorate of Prisons has reacted after the passing of two employees of the "Jordan Misja" Penitentiary Institution, announcing that they lost their lives while performing their duties as a result of unexpected health conditions.

According to the official announcement, at around 21:36 on the evening of June 29, Information Specialist with the rank of Commissioner, Zog Muhametaj, suffered a serious health condition during the staff briefing for the change of service. Colleagues and the institution's medical personnel immediately provided him with first aid, while he was urgently transported to the Military Hospital, but he could not survive.

A few hours later, around midnight on June 30, Pëllumb Vrana, a camera technician with the rank of Chief Inspector, also suffered a serious health condition while on duty. He was also urgently transported to the QSUT, where he died around 01:00, despite the efforts of the medical team.

"A serious event has affected the large family of the Albanian penitentiary system. While performing their duties, two employees of the "Jordan Misja" Penitentiary Institution, Zog Muhametaj, Information Specialist with the rank of Commissioner, and Pëllumb Vrana, Camera Technician, with the rank of Chief Inspector, lost their lives as a result of unexpected health conditions.

At around 21:36 on June 29, 2026, Zog Muhametaj, during the staff briefing for the change of service, suffered a serious health condition. The colleagues present and the institution's medical personnel intervened immediately, providing him with first aid and urgently transporting him with the IEVP ambulance to the Military Hospital. Despite the continuous efforts of the medical team, he did not manage to survive.
A few hours later, at around 00:00 on June 30, 2026, Pëllumb Vrana, while performing his duty in the institution's premises, also suffered a serious health condition. He was immediately given first aid by his colleagues and the institution's nurse, and was then urgently transported to the QSUT. At around 01:00, despite the efforts of the doctors, he passed away.
Zog Muhametaj has been part of the penitentiary system since 2015, while since 2023 he has been serving at the “Jordan Misja” Penitentiary Institution.
With a military education and the rank of Commissioner, he distinguished himself for his professionalism, dedication and responsibility in his duty.
Pëllumb Vrana, in the position of Camera Technician, made a valuable contribution to the functioning and security of the institution, earning the respect and appreciation of his colleagues for his correctness and dedication to his work.
The General Directorate of Prisons respectfully honors the memory of our two colleagues and expresses its gratitude for their valuable contribution to fulfilling the mission of the Albanian penitentiary system.
Their professionalism and dedication in the exercise of their duties will remain an example for the institution and all its employees.
