Map/ Albania among the areas most affected by the heat wave in Europe

Albania is experiencing one of the hottest periods of this summer, while maps published by the World Health Organization (WHO) list the country among the regions most affected by the wave of extreme temperatures that has swept Europe.

According to the organization's data, temperatures in the central part of the country have exceeded 35 degrees Celsius, while in some areas they have approached 40 degrees. The regions of Tirana, Elbasan, Fier and Lushnja are the most affected, while along the coast and in the mountainous areas temperatures have been somewhat lower.

The WHO notes that Albania is in the same heat belt as parts of Greece, southern Italy and the southern Balkans. Even higher temperatures have been recorded only in some regions of Spain, southern France and Turkey.

The heatwave is having a devastating effect across the continent. According to the WHO, health services in many European countries are facing an increased influx of cases related to extreme temperatures. France has reported a significant increase in calls for medical assistance, London has recorded a record number of life-threatening cases, while Spain has reported more than 300 heat-related deaths in just a few days. Italy, on the other hand, has reported five deaths in just 24 hours.
