"Unacceptable", comes the first reaction from the European Parliament

Vice-President of the European Parliament and MEP Nicolae Ștefănută has reacted after the clashes that occurred during today's protest in front of the Parliament in Tirana, condemning the use of force against citizens.

Through a post on social media, he published footage of police intervention during the protest and expressed concern about the way the rally was managed.

"Police violence against protesters is unacceptable," wrote Ștefănută, reacting to scenes recorded during clashes between officers and citizens.

The reaction of the senior European official comes at a time when the police intervention in today's protest has sparked widespread debate, while images of the use of tear gas, pepper spray, pressurized water, and forcible arrests have also been widely circulated in international media.
