Tear gas, pepper spray and violent arrests, what happened today in front of Parliament?

Tear gas, pepper spray, pressurized water, rubber batons, dragging and violent arrests. This is the balance of the protest held in front of Parliament against the government.

Started with the calls "Rama resigns", "Arrest Rama", the protest quickly escalated into violent clashes between participating citizens and the police who had formed a long cordon around Parliament.

 

Citizens tore down the metal fence set up by the police, thus breaking through the first barrier.

Some of the majority MPs, frightened by the protesters' eggs and flour, entered the Parliament building through secondary entrances. Others chose the shopping center near the pedestrian area, where some citizens ambushed them.

 

While some socialist deputies entered through the main entrance, they were not spared at all by the protesters who shouted in their faces, calling them "thieves." Some others were even pelted with eggs.

 

The situation escalated when the officers began violent arrests. Young men were dragged, forcibly held to the ground by 5-6 officers, while others beat them with rubber batons.

  

In a sign of revolt, some young people vandalized the police car, breaking the vehicle's windows.

 

The images of extreme violence against citizens today demand the removal of the prime minister and his government, which is remaining silent in the face of violent acts while normalizing the police response.
