The end of a legend! Manuel Neuer bids farewell to Germany

Manuel Neuer has decided to end his career with the German national team after the team's elimination from the 2026 World Cup.

The 40-year-old goalkeeper announced his decision in a social media post, where he admitted that Germany's World Cup adventure ended much earlier than expected. According to him, the team failed to meet expectations and should have gone much further in the tournament.

"We were far below expectations and should have gone much further in this tournament. This ending hurts a lot," Neuer wrote.

Neuer stressed that returning to the national team for this World Cup was a deliberate choice, with the aim of supporting the new generation of footballers, not only with his performances on the pitch, but also with his experience and role in the dressing room.

The German legend said that representing the country has always been a great privilege throughout his career, while underlining that he does not regret the decision to return, despite the disappointing end of the tournament.

"Wearing the Germany jersey has always been a great pride for me. My disappointment is indescribable, but above all I feel a great gratitude. I thank all the fans for their support over the years and during this World Cup," the goalkeeper concluded.
