A significant amount of narcotics was seized at Rinas Airport during controls carried out by customs authorities and the State Police.

The operation took place at the Rinas Border Crossing Point, where during the scanning of the luggage of passengers on a flight with the Toronto-Rinas route, two suitcases were found to contain suspected illegal contents.

After a physical search of the luggage, conducted in the presence of their owners, the authorities discovered and seized 46 kilograms of suspected narcotics of the Cannabis sativa variety, packaged in 89 packages.

The two people tied to the luggage, along with the seized narcotics, were handed over to the State Police, which has continued investigations to clarify the circumstances of the case and identify possible links to drug trafficking activity.

According to the Customs Administration, the discovery was made as part of controls based on risk analysis and in cooperation with law enforcement structures. The institution emphasizes that controls at border points will continue to be intensified with the aim of preventing drug trafficking and cracking down on other criminal activities.
