"It is applying double standards", Bardhi: SPAK should implement the

Following the statements of the head of SPAK, Klodian Braho, on the issue of the immunity of deputies, the head of the DP Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, has reacted.

He requested that the Special Prosecution Office follow the same legal standard applied previously and take the necessary steps in the case of Belinda Balluku, emphasizing that investigations should not be hindered by procedural delays.

Full reaction:

SPAK has put politics before the law on the immunity of Belinda Balluku. What the head of the Special Prosecution Office stated today on the Balluku case confirms that the double standard for bringing the request for lifting immunity to the Parliament is in effect. Otherwise, there is no way for the head of SPAK to declare today, on the one hand, that "the absence of a measure makes an investigation difficult and damages it", and, on the other hand, not to act in defense of the investigation by not bringing the request for lifting immunity and arrest of the former Deputy Prime Minister to the Parliament.

More than the lack of security measures, the investigation and justice are harmed by the double standards in the conduct of the Prosecution. It is unacceptable that the law brings one reaction from the Prosecution in December 2025 and a different reaction in June 2026.

Instead of becoming an accomplice to Edi Rama in the unconstitutional and illegal defense of Belinda Balluku, in the conditions when, a month ago, SPAK made public the seizure of the hidden villa and the expected new accusation of corruption and money laundering, the head of the Special Prosecution Office owes the Albanians some answers, about which he has been silent for a week:

-Why, now that SPAK itself has made public the aggravation of Belinda Balluku's criminal position with suspicions of corruption and money laundering, does it not address the Parliament with a request to lift her immunity and arrest her?

-Who is preventing the Special Prosecution Office from implementing the law, when the law dictates that, with the severity of the criminal position, the security measure must also be aggravated, precisely the standard that SPAK itself established in December?

-Did Edi Rama intervene with the new head of the Special Prosecution Office to postpone, at least until September, the implementation of the law and the same standard in the Balluku case?

An independent prosecutor does not do politics according to the interests of the Prime Minister at the moment and does not become part of political machinations and calculations. A good prosecutor applies the law. The law is the same as that of last December, when the head of SPAK declared that “when the criminal position is aggravated, the security measure must also be aggravated.”

I really hope that, at SPAK, they are not waiting for Belinda to escape and then wash their hands like Pontius Pilate.
