Ronaldo scores in the knockout stages for the first time at the World Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo continues to make history at the 2026 World Cup, recording another important achievement in his legendary career.

The star and captain of Portugal was the main protagonist in the success against Croatia, as he scored from the penalty spot the goal that sealed the qualification of the Lusitanians to the quarterfinals.

This achievement carried a special weight for the 41-year-old, as it was his first ever goal in a knockout match at the World Cup. A record that had been missing from his rich collection of achievements until now.

At the same time, Ronaldo brought his professional career goals to 976, moving ever closer to the historic goal of 1,000.

The Portuguese striker has now scored 11 goals in World Cup finals, with the penalty against Croatia being the first he has converted in the knockout stage of the competition.
