Just a handful a day, the snack that helps your heart and intestines

Eating a handful of almonds every day can bring significant benefits to the body, especially for people suffering from metabolic syndrome. This is the conclusion of a study conducted by researchers at Oregon State University, which evaluated the impact of almonds on cardiometabolic health.

Metabolic syndrome is a condition characterized by the presence of several risk factors, such as excess abdominal fat, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, low HDL cholesterol, and high triglycerides. The presence of at least three of these factors significantly increases the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

To evaluate the effects of almonds, researchers conducted a 12-week experiment with people aged 35 to 60. One group consumed about 45 almonds daily, while the other group received a similar amount of calories from a comparison food.

At the end of the study, participants who had consumed almonds showed increased levels of vitamin E in the body, decreased total and LDL cholesterol, reduced waist circumference, as well as improved gut health and reduced signs of inflammation.

According to researchers, these benefits are related to the nutritional composition of almonds. They are rich in vitamin E, unsaturated fats, fiber, magnesium, potassium, copper, biotin, and antioxidant compounds, which contribute to the protection of the body and the normal functioning of metabolism.

Experts emphasize that, for people who are not allergic to nuts, consuming one or two handfuls of almonds a day can be a healthy snack choice and help support heart health, improve metabolism, and reduce the risk of metabolic diseases.
