Contrast with the cries of "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison", but the DP took the protest to the European arena

In the protests that have entered their second consecutive month, there have often been calls from some participants against the two main figures of Albanian politics, Sali Berisha and Edi Rama.

Among the slogans heard are "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison", a message that expresses the dissatisfaction of some of the protesters towards both political camps.

However, developments following the protest highlighted two different approaches.

On the one hand, the protest was followed by arrests and prosecutions of several protesters by the Albanian authorities. On the other hand, the Democratic Party, through its engagement in the political family of the European People's Party (EPP), continued to seek international support for the protest and the concerns raised by it.

Just a few days later, the European People's Party published a statement in support of the protest and citizens' right to protest, bringing the issue to the attention of the European political arena.

This created a stark contrast between developments within the country and reactions at the international level: while in Albania the protest was accompanied by measures against the participants, on the European level, where the DP is part, there was a political reaction in its support.
