"We are not deterred by the calls for 'Rama-Berisha in prison'", the leader of the DP told Politiko: We do not distance ourselves from the protesters

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has reiterated the DP's position regarding the protest that has been taking place in the country for weeks, stating that the main demand remains the removal of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the creation of a caretaker government to guarantee free and fair elections.

Asked by Politiko.al during a conversation with citizens, Berisha also clarified the DP's stance on the protest and the relationship with the European People's Party (EPP), emphasizing that the support received at the international level is related to the resolution presented by the Democratic Party itself.

He defended the DP's position of not distancing itself from the protesters despite critical calls from both political camps, emphasizing that the protest remains a civic and youth movement, which the Democrats support without interfering in its organization.

Question from Politiko.al: During the protest, chants of 'Rama in prison, Berisha in prison' are heard, reflecting dissatisfaction with both political camps. How do you comment on the contrast between the measures taken by the Rama government against the protesters and the political support the protest received from the European People's Party, to which the DP is also a member?

Sali Berisha: For clarification, the support received from the European People's Party was the resolution presented by the Democratic Party, in which it requested support for the protest.
As for the calls, I have emphasized and I emphasize, those calls have neither prevented nor will they ever prevent the Democratic Party from giving the strongest support to the protest and will you tell me why?
First, it would be high treason not to support those young people in their ideals, dreams, and sacrifices.
Second, all five of their demands are absolutely demands that the Democratic Party has been defending and fighting for for years. All the laws that are being requested to be changed are very fair demands that we have opposed in parliamentary committees, we have opposed in public statements, we have opposed in parliamentary sessions, we have opposed in public hearings, but in fact for some of them we have received and paid the price that we are proud of.
Of course, I believe we agree, the main demand of the protest, for 3-4 years, is also the main demand of the Democratic Party: the removal of Edi Rama and a technical government for free and fair elections.
So, you are right, could the Democratic Party be hindered because of some calls from the opposition or groups paid by George Soros or others and others?
Absolutely not. You can never be hindered.
The Democratic Party chose the right path. The Democratic Party declared that this is not its protest and is not making the slightest effort to color it.
It is a youth, civic protest in which hundreds and thousands of democrats, members and members, ordinary supporters, but also leaders and deputies of the Democratic Party have participated, all of them without exception as ordinary citizens, under the motto of a civic movement.
So, we have been loyal, we have supported at the national and international level with all our potential and we will support this movement, without any interference categorically in its internal problems.
