Engine noise, a concern for Tirana

Tirana suffers from noise above European Union norms, not only from vehicles, but also from motorcycles, sports cars, but also those with low cubic capacity used for food and order delivery.

In Tirana's traffic, motorbikes are used as a solution to gain time, but the modification of some of them has increased the number of complaints to the traffic police due to the noise they cause.

This phenomenon is most prevalent during the night hours, when the city regains some calm from the busy days. But the motorbikes are the ones that don't stop even after midnight, turning into a nightmare for thousands of residents.

Specialists explain that many motorcycle enthusiasts modify mufflers beyond the required standards, exceeding the allowed decibel limits.

Tirana's traffic police are aware of this concern and have a map of the areas where this phenomenon is present and where citizens' concerns are most addressed.

Despite the fact that the law prohibits the modification of mufflers, the most commonly applied punitive measures are up to 4 thousand lekë. However, the law provides that the maximum fine can reach up to 40 thousand lekë.

Also of concern are the wrong maneuvers by motorcycle users, which often cause accidents.

During the past 6 months, the traffic police have fined 228 drivers for causing noise from these vehicles, while another 820 for speeding. According to the police, improvements can be made to the Traffic Code, which could affect the reduction of noise levels from this category./tvklan
