Morocco is the first team to secure a ticket to the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup, after convincingly defeating Canada with a score of 3-0 in the 1/8 stage. The North Africans showed maximum efficiency in the second half, ending the dream of the hosts to continue their adventure in the tournament.
Canada started the match better and created several good scoring chances, but were unable to beat goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. On the other hand, Morocco was cool in front of goal and took the lead in the 50th minute, when Azzedine Ounahi successfully completed a free kick.
The Moroccan midfielder was the absolute protagonist of the challenge, after scoring his second personal goal in the 82nd minute, giving his team peace of mind. In extra time, Soufiane Rahimi sealed the 3-0 victory with a quick counterattack, finally closing the match accounts.
With this success, Morocco once again confirms its status as one of the strongest teams in the tournament and secures qualification among the eight best teams of the World Cup. In the quarterfinals, the African representative will face France.
