Mbappe makes history with France, just one goal away from breaking Messi's

Kylian Mbappe continues to break records for France. The French forward was crucial in the 1-0 win over Paraguay in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, scoring the only goal of the match from the penalty spot and securing the "Roosters" a place in the quarter-finals.

With this achievement, Mbappe scored his 19th goal in World Cup history, moving him to the top of the French scoring charts in the competition and just one goal away from Lionel Messi's all-time record. He also remains in contention for the tournament's Golden Boot.

The match against Paraguay was much more difficult than expected for Didier Deschamps' team. The South Americans defended with great discipline and resisted the French attacks, until a penalty won in the second half was converted into a goal by Mbappe, who made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Thanks to this triumph, France advances among the top eight teams in the World Cup and will face Morocco in the quarterfinals, in a duel that is expected to be one of the most interesting of this phase.
