On hot days, here's how to reduce the risk of heatstroke

Heat stroke is a serious and potentially dangerous condition that occurs when the body can no longer regulate its temperature effectively.

It most often occurs due to exposure to high temperatures, especially when they are accompanied by high humidity, dehydration, or intense physical activity.

The most vulnerable groups are the elderly, children, athletes, people with chronic illnesses, and people who work outdoors during hot weather.

Sitting in a car that is parked in the sun is also dangerous, because the interior of the vehicle heats up very quickly and can become life-threatening.

Symptoms of heatstroke can vary in intensity and include dizziness, nausea, headache, rapid pulse, high body temperature, and red, hot skin. In more severe cases, confusion, loss of consciousness, convulsions, and organ failure can occur.

How to reduce the risk of heat stroke?

Experts emphasize that the risk of heat stroke can be reduced with simple measures. First of all, it is important to drink enough fluids, avoid being outdoors during the hottest part of the day, and wear light and airy clothing made from natural materials.

It is also recommended to stay in air-conditioned rooms or in the shade, as well as consume fruits and fruit drinks that contribute to hydration and freshness.

If heatstroke is suspected, the person should immediately move to the shade or a cool room and call an ambulance. Until help arrives, it is recommended to cool the body with cold water or a wet towel. If the person is conscious, they can drink a few sips of fluid.

The body's ability to cool itself can also be affected by certain medications, such as certain therapies for high blood pressure or diuretics, as well as alcohol and other psychoactive substances that increase the risk of dehydration and overheating of the body.

In addition to heatstroke, excessive sun exposure can also cause burns, sunstroke, heat exhaustion, and rashes, so it is especially important to protect yourself from the sun during the summer heat and take care of proper hydration and cooling of the body.
