Lamallari threatens lawyer with license revocation after allegations of violence

Following accusations that a person arrested during the protests in Tirana was raped in detention facilities during epileptic seizures, Rama's Minister, Besfort Lamallari, reacted by defending the State Police and saying that the Police Supervision Agency has initiated verifications.

But his statements went beyond an institutional reaction, as he warned that if the allegations prove to be untrue, the declarants may face criminal prosecution and measures up to and including referral to the Chamber of Advocates for the relevant lawyer.

The detainee's lawyer insists that his client has faced physical violence in a serious health condition and that he has evidence of his treatment, demanding a full investigation and immediate release.

According to him, the arrested person is also on a hunger strike, while his health condition has been ignored by the authorities.

On the other hand, the organization "Civic Resistance" has described the minister's stance as pressure on the lawyer and an attempt to intimidate the legal defense before the evidence is reviewed.

According to her, allegations of violence should only be verified through cameras, medical documents, and independent investigations, not through warnings of punishments against those who make them public.
