Court releases most protesters, only two under "house arrest"; Lawyer: Arrests were political

Court releases most protesters, only two under "house arrest"; Lawyer:

The court has issued a ruling for 19 citizens arrested during the mass protest against the government, largely rejecting the Prosecutor's Office's requests for severe security measures.

After a marathon session, the panel of judges decided that only two of the detainees would remain under "house arrest", while the other 17 were ordered to "compulsory appearance".

One of the defense attorneys, Dorian Matliaj, announced that the Prosecution had initially requested “prison arrest” for three people, while later changing the request for one of them to “house arrest.” According to him, the court did not accept these requests, leaving only the citizens with the surnames Bardhi and Gega under house arrest.

The lawyer also challenged the legality of the arrests, calling them political and unsupported by concrete evidence, even though the court considered them legal for the purposes of the criminal procedure.

"For the 19 people arrested during the protest, the prosecution initially requested 'prison arrest' for 3 of them, and then changed its position, requesting 'house arrest' for one. For all the others, the measure of 'compulsory appearance' was requested. After long debates, the court decided that only two people should remain under 'house arrest', specifically citizens with the surnames Bardhi and Gega," the lawyer declared to reporters.

"The court considered the arrest lawful in principle for procedural purposes, but in our professional and constitutional perspective, for the vast majority of these boys the arrest was completely illegal and without any concrete evidence," the lawyer concluded.
