Extreme temperatures, IGJEUM: Red alert for fires in 3 counties!

The risk of forest fires remains high in some areas of the country, even though temperatures this week are expected to be somewhat lower than last week. According to the Institute of Geosciences, Energy, Water and Environment (IGJEUM), three regions are at the highest risk level for the spread of flames.

In its latest assessment, IGJEUM has placed the regions of Lezha, Durrës and Fier on red alert, where the combination of hot weather and lack of rainfall have created favorable conditions for the outbreak of fires.

While the rest of the territory is mainly presented with moderate risk, in some areas of the regions of Shkodër, Tirana, Elbasan, Berat, Gjirokastër and Vlorë the risk level increases to high, especially in forested and hilly areas.

Meteorologists predict isolated rainfall during Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday, mainly in mountainous areas. However, they are expected to be short and of limited extent, so they are not considered a factor that can significantly reduce the risk of fires.

Although the country will experience a slight relief from the heat, maximum temperatures will continue to be high, reaching up to 34 degrees Celsius in low-lying areas. During the night, the thermometer is not expected to drop below 19 degrees Celsius, while another gradual increase in temperatures is expected by the weekend.
