Fierza drops to lowest level in recent weeks due to drought

High temperatures and lack of rainfall have led to a significant decrease in flows in the Drin River cascade, directly affecting local electricity production.

Lake Fierza has suffered a decrease in water levels, while the Albanian Electric Power Corporation is carefully managing water reserves and is turning to imports to ensure supply during the summer period.

According to data from the Fierzë HPP, current flows are around 35 cubic meters of water per second, while the lake's level has dropped to 292.16 meters above sea level. This represents a drop of nearly 4 meters compared to mid-June.

At the Fierza hydroelectric power plant, only one unit is currently in operation, while the other three are kept on standby. Daily production is estimated at around 110 megawatts/hour, in the context of preserving water reserves.

If high temperatures and lack of rainfall continue, water resource management and securing energy through imports are expected to remain the main challenges for the upcoming period.
