Veliaj's trial, Xoxa requests a 63-day postponement of the trial, Dumani: The case should be divided

Veliaj's trial, Xoxa requests a 63-day postponement of the trial, Dumani:

Court hearings against the defendants have begun at the Special Court, where Ajola Xoxa's request for the suspension of the trial was at the center of the discussions.

Erion Veliaj has submitted his statement before the court, indicating that he has completed the necessary documents and that he will be represented during the process by his defense attorney.

Meanwhile, Ajola Xoxa was not present in the courtroom and through her defense requested the postponement of the session and the suspension of the process for 63 days, referring to her health condition after giving birth to her child.

Her lawyer, Gurali Brahimllari, stated that Xoxa had a cesarean section on June 29 and that she is currently unable to fully communicate with her lawyers to ensure an effective defense. According to him, she has not authorized her lawyers to continue the process without her presence.

The request was opposed by the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, who argued that the law provides for adjournments of the hearing for up to 15 days and requested that the case against Xoxa be separated from the other defendants, so that the trial can continue for the rest of the case.

Dumani said that the court process began in September and that Xoxa has not appeared in any of the hearings held so far.

On the other hand, the defense opposed the division of the case, arguing that this would complicate the process and that the priority should be respecting the right to effective defense.

After debates between the parties, the Special Court has withdrawn to make a decision regarding the submitted requests.
