vlen MPs detained at the border, Bardhi: Unacceptable behavior towards

An incident at the border crossing between Albania and North Macedonia has prompted a reaction from the head of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi.

He has denounced the detention by the State Police of several Albanian political representatives from North Macedonia, demanding transparency and clarification of the circumstances of the event.

According to Bardhi, among the detained persons were the head of the VLEN Parliamentary Group, Bekim Qoku, MPs Adnan Azizi and Hasim Murtezani, as well as the Deputy Secretary General of the Government of North Macedonia.

In his reaction, the democratic MP described the treatment of officials from North Macedonia as unacceptable, stating that Albanian institutions must guarantee respect and cooperation with representatives of Albanians abroad.

Bardhi called on the State Police to immediately provide a public explanation for the case, while demanding that any possible violations be investigated and that those responsible be held accountable.

Bardhi's reaction:

I condemn in the strongest possible terms the behavior of the State Police at the border crossing point towards several parliamentary colleagues from North Macedonia, specifically towards the head of the VLEN Parliamentary Group, MP Bekim Qoku, MPs Adnan Azizi and Hasim Murtezani, as well as towards the Deputy Secretary General of the Government of North Macedonia.

No institution of the Albanian state has the right to treat the legitimate representatives of the Albanians of North Macedonia in a derogatory manner. Such actions are unacceptable, they contradict the constitutional obligations of the Republic of Albania to protect and respect Albanians wherever they live, and they violate the spirit of cooperation and respect that should characterize the relations between our two countries.

I demand that the State Police immediately provide a public and transparent explanation for this event. Any action committed in violation of the law must be seriously investigated and any person responsible must be held accountable, without any hesitation.

Albania must always be a state that welcomes, respects and protects Albanians, not a state where they feel insulted or hindered. This is not only a legal issue, but also a national and moral obligation.

Such acts damage the image of the Albanian state, violate relations between Albanians on both sides of the border, and should never be repeated in the future.
