More than six and a half years have passed since the devastating earthquake of November 2019, but for the family of Xhevahir Kaja, the tragedy is not over yet. Their home in the village of Kryevidh in the Municipality of Rrogozhina was declared uninhabitable (DS5), and since then the family with three children has been living in an improvised facility in the village of Rreth-Greth, once built to keep chickens.
Although the state has approved a fund of 22,365,520 lek for the construction of a new 2+1 apartment, work has not even started today. The family says that for years they have been hearing the same promises: “Today”, “tomorrow”, “next week”, while their reality remains the same.

The conditions they live in are extremely difficult. The roof leaks every time it rains, humidity has taken over the environment, and the three children sleep in a space that does not even meet the minimum requirements for housing.

"We live here, I sleep here with my grandchildren. It's cold, but we have nothing to do," says the grandmother of the family, as she points to the room where they spend the nights.

Xhevahir's wife also recounts the daily difficulties: "This place was given to us by my sister-in-law. It was made for chickens, but we had nowhere to go. I don't have any household appliances. There's nothing in the kitchen. Just a few potatoes, some pickles, and donated olives. Only the husband works when he finds work."

Xhevahir Kaja says that the construction company had initially requested the arrangement of the road and the square where the apartment would be built. The family, with the help of relatives, made this investment in the hope that the works would start immediately, but no one ever returned.

To understand the reason for the delays, Fiks Fare contacted the construction company "Braka" sh.pk and the Urban Planning Office in the Municipality of Rrogozhina. The company stated that it is awaiting a construction permit, while the municipality explained that there is no application filed for this permit in the system.

After Fiks Fare expressed interest, the parties agreed to cooperate in completing the documentation. The municipality stated that, once the complete application is submitted, the permit procedures will be expedited, while the company representative promised to assist the family at every step, in order for the construction of the apartment to begin as soon as possible.

After more than six years of waiting, the Kaja family hopes that this time the promises will finally turn into a real home. Top Channel
