Ukraine strengthens air defense, Macron announces deal for 16 Rafale jets

Ukraine is expected to expand its military capabilities with new equipment from France, following the agreement announced by President Emmanuel Macron for the supply of fighter jets and air defense systems.

During the Ukraine summit in Paris, attended by 37 countries, Macron announced that Kiev would purchase 16 French Rafale fighter jets, as well as the SAMP/T air defense system.

According to the French president, this cooperation aims to increase Ukraine's ability to defend its airspace as the country continues its war with Russia.

Part of the agreement is the transfer of production licenses for several defense capabilities, including long-range “SCALP” missiles. The new French aircraft are expected to enter service with the Ukrainian military by the end of the decade.

The SAMP/T system, developed by the European consortium Eurosam, is considered one of the most advanced air defense systems and has the ability to counter threats such as ballistic missiles, fighter jets, and drones.

The agreement comes at a time when Western allies are increasing military support for Ukraine, with the aim of strengthening its defenses in the face of Russian attacks.
